Baby Blanket and Headbands

One of my great friends just had a baby girl last week.   They named her Piper.  She's such a sweet tiny little thing.  I wanted to do something fun for a gift and decided to cut her name in vinyl real cute.  I can't wait to see what my friend Britt does with it.  She's super creative!
I made her a few little headbands too, only she's so super tiny, I bet she'll have to wait a couple months to even fit into a newborn sized headband.
Then I made her a soft and cozy blanket.  I bought all the fabrics at Joanns.  I love the little rosette fur they have there right now.  So fun and soft!  Then I did a cotton print and a silky ruffle for the edges.  I sure hope little Piper will enjoy all the fun textures.  I can't wait to meet her someday!  Congrats to you Britt and family!

Distressed Photo Blocks

My sister in law's birthday was yesterday.  Happy Birthday Kathryn!!!  A couple months ago, with the help of my brother, I started working on her gift and wanted to try distressing wood with vasoline.  I'd seen it all over pintrest and different blogs.  People said it was easy and so I thought I'd give it a try.
I found it to be incredibly messy, and the top coat of paint took about 3-4 days to dry because of the vasoline, but I LOVE the way it turned out.
I used Americana paint Raw Umber for the under coat.  For the top coat I used Linen by Folkart.  A great website that has step by step instructions on how to do this is HERE. One thing that she said to do at the end is sand the edges and corners lightly, but I found that my paint never dried and I never sanded it.  I just rubbed it lightly with a paper towel and it wiped off and then it finally dried.  Hehehe.  It was a super fun project and a great way to use up little pieces of 2x4.

No Soliciting

I saw a similar sign floating around Pintrest and thought I really really needed one.  We have had so many college age kids wanting to win a trip with magazine sales or book sales coming by the house lately and sometimes it is all I can do to open that door and not have our Great Dane get out and chase them down the block.  She's done that to a few of our church ward members....and while I laughed my head off at the time, it did worry me that maybe she's becoming as tad too aggressive towards strangers.  She's also way too hard for me to control while I'm holding a baby.  She does love children though and is so gentle with them, she's just pretty protective of them.  Anyway, I made this a month ago and have gotten so many comments on it of people wanting one...even had a solicitor knock on my door to tell me they liked my sign and wondered if they could buy one off of me. Hahaha!  Thought that was kinda different.
