I made this pallet with 1x4x17" pieces of wood.  You'll need 5 of them and braces for the back.  Plus screws.  The finished size is 17x17.  First, assemble the pallet, then paint it white.  Then I used distressing ink in the color want and inked the edges and across the boards slightly.  Then you hammer 5 nails into the board, only about 1/2 way each.  You'll place them at the outer points of the star.  Then I took this chevron burlap ribbon that I got at Hobby Lobby, and starting at the top nail, wound it around the nails until I got the shape of a star.  Tie a bow at the top and it is finished!
